Opening statement
I understand that Kelowna city council and West Kelowna city council have not even met together and I think that's an important relationship that we need to build and work strongly with them, especially if we're discussing things like a second bridge or bringing the bridge that we have up to its fullest capacity that it was built for.
Lee-Ann Tiede Watch at 8:23 on YouTube (opens in a new tab) How does your specific skill set make you an effective councillor?
reviewing budgets and trying to find efficiencies that we could have in our spending, trying to increase what's happening in our city without increasing our taxes.
Lee-Ann Tiede Watch at 26:26 on YouTube (opens in a new tab) There is talk about a different model for policing. What is your position, and why?
I've talked to both Nikki and Les about this and I think I agree with both of you on your stance that we need to research it. We need to understand what the pros and cons are. Either way, we need a mutual aid agreement with our neighbouring communities.
Lee-Ann Tiede Watch at 42:15 on YouTube (opens in a new tab) What role can the city play in making Kelowna more affordable and livable for families?
because affordability is beyond just our community. It's coming from the outside. It's people coming in that we're supporting that are living in our community who aren't paying taxes. And if we keep putting the burden on the taxpayers who are trying to make a living here, that's putting more strain on families
Lee-Ann Tiede Watch at 48:09 on YouTube (opens in a new tab) What role can the city play in making Kelowna more affordable and livable for families?
If a mom has three kids, I don't think the bus is the answer.
Lee-Ann Tiede Watch at 48:36 on YouTube (opens in a new tab) How would you help make Kelowna livable 365 days a year?
I mean there's lots of discussion about a convention center which I think would be a game changer in this town. [...] If we could bring back activities that the whole family could enjoy at different levels, at different times of the year, I think that would be a really good value add to this community.
Lee-Ann Tiede Watch at 1:17:40 on YouTube (opens in a new tab) What one or two issues are top of mind for you?
one of the issues that I think about quite a lot is on homelessness and how we need to make sure that we define which homelessness we're talking about. [...] The other type of homelessness is people who choose to be on the streets and I think that needs a very different approach. [...] Just making sure that we don't lump everyone into one big category is my concern.
