The questions.

The wording here is the wording on the form. Mayor and council answer 1 through 19. School trustees answer T1 through T8. Every candidate answers 20 through 23.

Mayor and council

Questions 1 to 19. Questions 1 to 8 are multiple choice, with a short written answer.

Question 1

The city will keep growing. Where should most of the next homes be built?

  1. Taller buildings downtown and in the town centres
  2. More suites and infill on streets that are already neighbourhoods
  3. New neighbourhoods on the edge of the city

Question 2

New homes need roads, water, parks, and fire protection. Who pays?

  1. The new development, even if that raises the price of the home
  2. All city taxpayers, so the home is cheaper to build
  3. Both. You will name the split below.

Question 3

On property taxes, what will you vote for?

  1. An increase no higher than inflation
  2. A higher increase, to pay for one service you will name
  3. A cut, to one service you will name

Question 4

The next new dollar spent on street disorder should go to:

  1. More police and bylaw officers on the street
  2. More housing and health care for people living outside
  3. Both. Say below which one gets the next new dollar.

Question 5

When a camp is on city land, what will you support?

  1. Close the camp only if a shelter bed is offered that day
  2. Do not close a camp until people have housing
  3. Close a camp only when it blocks a sidewalk, a park, or a school

Short-term rentals.

  1. Tighter rules, so more of these homes are lived in year-round
  2. Looser rules, so owners can rent them to visitors

Question 10

Council asked Ottawa not to renew the downtown supervised consumption site in 2027. Do you support closing it, yes or no? If it closes, what exactly should replace it, and what will the city do if the province or Interior Health doesn’t provide it?

Question 11

Name one thing council now handles behind closed doors or keeps confidential that you would make public, for example the Prospera Place operator bids. What is a legitimate reason to keep something confidential?

Question 12

Rental vacancy is near 7%. Where should city housing incentives go now (market rental, family/ownership, non-market), and what would you stop subsidizing?

Question 13

Council rezoned half of Kelowna Springs golf course 5–3. Was it the right call? What test would you use before converting green or recreation land?

Question 14

Metro Kelowna unemployment hit 9.3%. Was leaving the regional economic development commission right? Name one concrete city action that would add year-round jobs this term.

Question 15

Should Kelowna expand its permanent growth boundary (for example into North Glenmore)? If yes, what must be true first? If no, which existing neighbourhoods take more density over the next 10 years?

Question 16

In a drought, who should be restricted first, farms, residential lawns, or new development, and what would you change in water planning or approvals?

Question 17

Name one road project you would rethink and one you would speed up. Do you support a private-property tree-protection bylaw, yes or no?

Question 18

Name one issue where Kelowna should share money or control with neighbouring governments, and one where it should go alone.

School trustee

Questions T1 to T8. T1 to T3 are multiple choice, with a short written answer.

Question T1

Kelowna schools are short of rooms. What do you vote for first?

  1. New schools, even if that means a bigger budget
  2. Fill the schools we have, including boundary changes
  3. More portables, as the cheaper option for now

Question T2

The next new school dollar should go to:

  1. Classroom teachers and smaller classes
  2. Support for students who need extra help
  3. Buildings and repairs

Question T3

When parents disagree with a school decision, what should the board do?

  1. Publish the policy and hold the line
  2. Reopen the decision in public
  3. Leave it to the principal

Question T4

Name one thing the district spends money on that you would reduce.

If you would reduce nothing, write "nothing" and say what you would not cut even if enrolment falls.

Question T5

Enrolment fell two years running and left a $4.2M gap. Name the first program you would cut or restructure, and one thing you would never cut.

Question T6

Should high schoolers on transit routes lose yellow-bus service? Where do you stand on bus fees?

Question T7

After the school knife attack and parent complaints, what one change would you make to how the district handles safety incidents and tells parents?
